Dr. Rimi Grewal is a board-certified psychiatrist who joined Kansas City Psychiatric Group in August 2012. She has practiced psychiatry since 2005 and has acquired extensive experience across a variety of clinical settings. Dr. Grewal values taking the time to understand each patient’s individual experiences, concerns, and goals. Her broad clinical background informs a comprehensive approach to psychiatric evaluation and treatment, with careful consideration of each patient’s symptoms, history and unique circumstances.
Her approach to her practice is shaped by her past work experience in several different clinical settings such as inpatient, outpatient and hospital-based with a wide range of patient population. This broad clinical background has given her the insight and experience to tailor treatment recommendations based on each patient’s unique individual needs and circumstances. Dr. Grewal recognizes that mental health is often shaped by a person’s experiences, relationships, medical history and life transitions, and she strives to provide care that reflects the full context of each patient’s story.
She believes sometimes “less is more” when it comes to medication. She tries not just to get patients started on the right medication, but she also works with them to get off the medication, if that is a reasonable and achievable goal. Dr. Grewal has an internal medicine background and likes to consolidate patients’ medication regimens. We share some medication options with Internal Medicine/Cardiology and Neurology, and she will try to simplify regimens involving mutually shared medications.
Dr. Grewal treats adolescents and adults aged 16 and older with a wide range of psychiatric concerns. She has experience caring for individuals with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, substance-use disorders, and other complex psychiatric presentations. She works with patients to better understand their symptoms and treatment options while developing an approach that aligns with their individual goals.
Dr. Grewal completed medical school in India before completing her psychiatry residency training at the University of Missouri. Throughout her career, she has served as a staff psychiatrist at Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center in Columbia, Missouri, and Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She previously served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Missouri and provided care through the community clinic at Green Meadows. Dr. Grewal is a member of the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists.
What matters most to Dr. Grewal
“What I love most about psychiatry is listening to my patients’ stories and having the opportunity to be part of their journey. It is meaningful to walk alongside patients as they work toward greater understanding, healing and improved well-being.”
