Dr. John Netherton is a psychiatrist at Kansas City Psychiatric Group who believes effective psychiatric care is built on collaboration, education, and a strong therapeutic partnership. He takes time to understand each patient’s unique experiences, concerns and goals, working alongside them to develop an individualized treatment plan that supports meaningful and sustainable progress. Dr. Netherton values open communication and strives to create an environment where patients feel comfortable asking questions, exploring treatment options, and taking an active role in their care.
His approach combines evidence-based psychiatric treatment with practical psychoeducation to help patients better understand their diagnoses, symptoms, and available treatment options. Dr. Netherton recognizes that meaningful improvement often requires more than medication alone and enjoys working with individuals who are motivated to better understand their mental health and engage in the treatment process. He believes that knowledge can be empowering and works to ensure patients feel informed and supported when making decisions about their care.
Dr. Netherton treats patients ages 12 and older with a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia spectrum disorders and substance use disorders. He has a particular clinical interest in ADHD and OCD and enjoys helping patients better understand how these conditions affect their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships and daily functioning.
Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Netherton earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Utah Valley University. He completed medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.
